THE FARGASON RANCH
Hey sweet friends,
In case you haven’t heard our recent news … Luke and I bought our first home back in April. Since then we have kept ourselves busy with making this 1980′s red brick ranch feel like “home”. We have graciously embraced late night projects that take 3 times the amount of time expected and endless trips to Lowes. Oh, but the journey has been so much fun and Luke is becoming quite the handyman. I’d love to share our experience with you and maybe even share the life lessons and tips along the way!
Here is a list of major things we tackled:
1. paint entire house & scrape all popcorn ceilings
2. install board and batten in entry & hallway
3. install beadboard in both bathrooms
4. install crown molding throughout most of the house
5. replace base boards in 3 bedrooms
6. replace light fixtures in entry way, hallway, kitchen nook, and laundry
7. update laundry room
8. replace all 12 interior doors
9. oh … and installing the front porch swing
I fell in love with the house from the very begining, but I knew there where some major cosmetic things that needed to take place before it would feel like “ours“. With a big front porch and a santuary for a back yard, we knew that we couldn’t wait to put an offer in. All I could think about was sitting on the front porch and sipping hot coffee in a white rocking chair. And let me tell you … that is exactly what I am doing as I write this post.
So let’s dive in. The previous owners had most of the main living spaces painted pink and mauve…really? The brown doors definitely HAD to go as well.
But, can you take a look at this back yard? Isn’t it heavenly? It does, however, need lots of landscaping. We are saving that project for next year.
After we signed on the dotted line, we were well on our way with renovations!
First things first … choosing the perfect gray to paint our home was quite an event. I spent lots of time on Young House Love blog and Pinterest (of course) reading their posts about choosing the perfect gray and interior paint colors for your home. I ended up buying 10-12 different paint colors. I painted each color swatch in every room of the home and would then go back at different times of the day to see how different light and times of day affected the colors. Luke thought I was hilarious, but I know he is really glad he married an artistic gal who obsesses over paint colors.
Here are my final paint choices:
Benjamin Moore Moonshine – for the formal living, entryway, hallway, and 2 guest rooms. Love this! I have found that it has a little bit of a green undertone which is quite lovely and Luke thinks it’s funny that we have moonshine all over our walls.
Benjamin Moore 75% of Stonington Gray – for the kitchen, dining, and living room (all 3 of these rooms were connected so I wanted the color to flow nicely into each room) I wrestled over this color for so long, but I absolutely love how it turned out. *More pictures to come soon!
Sherwin Williams – Buoyant Blue for the laundry room *More pictures to come soon!
Sherwin Williams – Blue Horizon for the the 2 bathrooms *More pictures to come soon!
